Karmel Mayerling: day ticket

Explore Karmel Mayerling, the former hunting lodge of Crown Prince Rudolf and the site of a tragedy that changed Austrian history. On January 30, 1889, the Crown Prince and his lover Mary Vetsera died here in an apparent suicide pact, an incident that forever altered the fate of the Habsburgs.

Converted into a Carmelite convent by Emperor Franz Joseph I, the site preserves the memory of this dramatic event, with the church altar standing exactly where the tragedy occurred. Visitors can view authentic artifacts and read the farewell letters of Maria Vetsera.

The daily admission ticket provides access to the exhibition and the monastery church. Audio guides are available for a small fee on-site, with proceeds supporting the work of the Carmelite nuns.
